Would a box for a kicker L7 12″ be good with a port tuned to 38 hertz?

I am looking to purchase a ported box for my kicker L7 and the seller said the port is tuned to 38 hertz so that it can be loud but still retain quality. Is this true?

38Hz is a good frequency for higher SPL. You will still get alot of the lows as well. I personally like tuning my enclosures to around 32Hz for more of the low end bass.

There is a drawback to enclosures tuned above 34 to 36 Hz..
At the port tuned frequency, the air mass in the port vibrates in phase with the cones movement, damping the cones motion. The cone of the driver becomes virtually motionless at this point, and the sound comes primarily from the port. Since the tuned frequency is almost at 40Hz, the speaker’s travel or excursion will only increase as the frequencies get lower. At 20Hz it will be at or exceeding the speaker’s XMAX. A subsonic filter is a must in this case. Set it somewhere around 26-30Hz with the steepest slope possible.
