If a fighter jet was traveling the speed of mach 3, wouldn’t you be able to hear it fly?

I’ve heard that some of these Russian fighter jets can travel the speed of mach 3. At mach 3 speed, wouldn’t you break the sound barrier, meaning you won’t hear anything at all? Since the speed of sound is just close to mach 1, am I right?

It just means that the jet supercedes the speed of sound. So if you are stationary (not moving) then you would hear the jet but only after the jet passed you.

If you were moving at the speed of sound and the jet passed you going MACH 3 would you hear the jet? Yes you would because at some point the jet is passed you, then you would run into the sound so to speak.

If you travel in a straight line faster (even a little) than the speed of sound directly away from a jet going MACH 3 and you never stopped going directly away from it then you would never hear the jet.
